The Handmaid's Tale
Date: Saturday June 15th, 2024 at 7:30 PM
Location: Jenny Belzberg Theatre, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity
Alexandra is excited to be featured in The Handmaid’s Tale as part of the Opera/Interplay program at the Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity. Based on Margaret Atwood’s Novel, this opera is composed by Danish composer Poul Ruders with Libretto by Paul Bentley. This is a workshop showing of Daniel Schlosberg’s new arrangement performed in the Jenny Belzberg Theatre at the Banff Centre. “Don’t miss this exceptional chance to see the first workshop presentation of this seminal Canadian dystopian classic about a woman’s struggles in a totalitarian society, in a new chamber version commissioned by Banff Centre. Witness the early stages of an opera production before it premieres on stages near and far in the coming years.” - Banff Centre website.
Synopsis: In the far future, the year 2195, a box containing a number of audio cassettes from the beginning of the 21st Century suddenly appear, and the tapes are subsequently played at an International Historical Convention in Cambridge, England. The tapes contain the secret diary of an anonymous woman who allegedly escaped from her position as involuntary, so-called Handmaid, at a private home in the theocratic dictatorship of the republic Gilead, the former USA, around A.D. 2006. We don’t know the Handmaid’s real name - only her given name of service: Offred.
Catch Alexandra as “Offred’s Mother” and “Rita” in this production.

Alexandra is excited to perform as “le Prince Charmant” in UofT Opera’s production of Cendrillon at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto. “Charles Perrault’s classic story of a lonely “cinder” girl, an unhappy household and a searching prince is given human dimension in this 19th century masterpiece. Massenet’s sweeping, lyric score elevates this simple folktale to a compelling narrative of self discovery, a quest for enduring love and the power of goodness.” Uoft Opera.
